Counselling Approach and Experience

I am a person-centred counsellor, this means I work alongside you to understand your feelings and experiences, and to support you to find the way forward that works for you.

I do not offer a ‘one-size-fits-all’ approach, and I do not come with a list of things you ‘should’ do.

I believe that everyone has their own path in life and my role is to support you along your own path, not to pressure you or push you in any particular direction. This is central to my practice, everyday we face expectations from society, family, friends and ourselves. I aim to provide you with a space where you can be yourself as you are and I am an LGBTQIA+ and neurodiversity affirming counsellor.

I work with clients who seek counselling for many reasons and support clients around areas such as;

  • trauma,

  • domestic abuse,

  • significant health events and long-term conditions,

  • anxiety,

  • low self-esteem,

  • workplace stress,

  • burnout.

While I have experience in these and other areas, I work with the person first, I see us all as much more than the labels which can be applied to us or our experience.

Although you may seek counselling for a specific reason, you will be met with openness and no expectations about how you may be affected by or feel about your experiences.

You can find out more about my specific areas of experience below.

Counselling For Trauma and Domestic Abuse

I offer counselling for trauma and abuse. If you are looking for counselling to help you cope with these experiences, I offer a calm, consistent and warm relationship which can support you to process and move forward.

Within our counselling I will never ask you to share your experiences, though you are welcome to share anything you need to, at a pace that is right for you.

You may want to talk about things that have happened or you may wish to focus on where you are now and how to move forward, both are valid and will be respected by me.

I will work with you to create a relationship and a space where you feel safe and empowered to use counselling in a way that works for you.

I have significant experience of counselling women who have experienced domestic abuse, and a nuanced understanding of how trauma can affect us.

Counselling for Teachers and Caring Professionals

I have a specific interest in supporting those in the caring professions to navigate the particular challenges these professions can entail.

From my own lived experience, I understand being motivated to care for others, working within stretched systems, where stress levels are high and how hard it can be to carry on.

I know this can have a significant professional and personal impact and can lead to burnout, depression and anxiety, all experienced whilst trying to keep everything going.

If you are feeling overwhelmed or unsure what is next for you, I can support you to explore your options and process your experiences.

It may be you want to develop your boundaries to continue in your role in a way that is safe for you, or you may want to consider what it would mean for you to move on from your role. Whatever you would like to explore I offer a warm and non-judgemental space, where your wellbeing is central.
